The SDIC Communications Company, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the State Development and Investment Corporation (SDIC), is an investment holding company specialized in carrying out holding operations for ports, railways, roads, bridges and other transport infrastructure projects. With a registered capital of 2 billion yuan, the company assets totaled 14.5 billion yuan and its owner equity stood at 7.771 billion yuan at the end of 2008.
SDIC Transport is the sole national owner representative that has central equity (operational fund) in China port industry, and has invested in 18 key seaports, with a total handling capacity of over 300 million tons in equity-controlled ports. The port operation projects controlled by the company include the 50-million-ton coal wharf in the Caofeidian area of the Tangshan Port, the 30-million-ton coal wharf in the Jingtang area of the Tangshan Port, the Shenjiang Port and the Yangpu Port. The port construction projects controlled by the company include the 30-million-ton coal wharf in the Jingtang area of the Tangshan Port, which began trial operation in 2008 and formal operation in 2009; the 50-million-ton coal wharf in the Caofeidian area of the Tangshan Port, which began trial operation in February 2009; phase III of the Dagang project of the Zhenjiang Port and phase III of the Yangpu Port, which also began formal operation in 2009. These construction projects include three 100,000-ton wharfs, seven 50,000~70,000-ton wharfs, and four 20,000~35,000-ton wharfs. With their designed handling capacities totaling nearly 100 million tons and their investments totaling 11 million yuan, these projects have all been completed and put into operation. In addition, the company has invested as the controlling shareholder in the SDIC Shandong Linyi Road & Bridge Company and invested as the participating shareholder in the port projects in the places of Zhangjiagang, Nantong, Yantai, Yingkou and Ningbo. It has also participated in the Liuliqiao Passenger Transport Hub in Beijing, the Railway Relocation Project in Caofeidian, and the Inner Mongolia-Hebei Railway.
In keeping with the requirement of the SDIC overall strategy for coal and power transport coordination, SDIC Communications Company will do its best to meet the country energy transport demand. It will focus on the southward movement of northern coal and the development of port shipping so as to make contributions to the country economic development.
