The port successfully charged the 40,000 DWT bulk cargo ship Shen Hua 513 docked at berth 209 via its 6kv power transmission system, the first time for the port to supply electricity to a docked giant ship via its high voltage shore-based electricity supply system. It was an important move for the port company to help docked ships reduce carbon emissions. The whole process is said to be stable and successful.

Before the shore-to-ship high voltage electricity supply, SDIC Caofeidian Port had carried out thorough consultations on technical details with Shen Hua 513 and made well preparations to guarantee its success.

Shore-to-ship high voltage electricity supply has the advantage of low line loss. This also indicates that the port has upgraded its shore-to-ship electricity supply to high voltage power system from the previous low voltage system.

The shore-to-ship high voltage electricity supply technology can help ships replace their electricity supply generated by their auxiliary engines with shore-based power supply systems while docking at port berth. This not only can help a docked ship to cut operation costs for its lighting, telecommunications, air conditioning and water pumps, but also can help a docked ship to realize zero-emission and noise reduction, which has both good economic and social benefits.
